I've been a Verizon subscriber for already 2 years on my wireless service and couldn't be more pleased with their one of a kind reception that works pretty much everywhere. The damn thing works in my underground garage for gods sacks. But they have one huge flaw that holds them back from becoming the best wireless provider on the market. Their selection of phones, or lack there of. As it stands they have a very small number of Samsung and Motorola phones that are hardly worth looking at. I think they even have a couple of cheap ass Nokias.
My contract is about to expire and I have my eye set on the Motorola Razr, even though everyone and their grandma have one. But what else is there? Nothing.
I was also considering changing providers and maybe going with the new Sprint/Nextel? Maybe they got better ever since the merger, I don't know.

If anything, I've heard from several people that Sprint/Nextel have gotten WORSE since they merged.
Your best bet might be to try eBay. There are several resellers that offer what are called "unlocked" phones. (Just make sure you do a search for phones that are compatible with your carrier.) All you have to do is copy all your contacts to your SIM card (if you don't already do that) and install the SIM into the new phone. I did this when I was in the market for a new phone and couldn't be happier with mine - Motorola V600, a huge step-up from my cheap ass LG.
Unfortunately if I were to go with Verizon, which I probably will, they don't offer phones with a SIM card.
Also, since I'm an ongoing customer they'll give me a phone worth up to 200 bucks for free.
So, I think the best bet for me is to go with the Razr and hope for the best.
